Birth photography faq's

Hopefully any questions you may have will be answered here. But if you are still unsure of anything then please do not hesitate to get in touch here

What is birth photography?

Birth photography is the visual documentation of your labour, delivery and immediate postpartum moments. I will record this monumental occassion in a documnetary style to tell your unique story, capturing all the magical moments as they unfold, for you to treasure for a lifetime.

When should I book you?

As early as possible! I only take on a limited number of births over the course of each year. Therefore, please get in touch so that we can discuss my availability.

The booking fee must be paid to secure your due date, with the remaining balance due at our 37 week consultation.

I am happy to offer an interest free payment plan to help spread the cost if required, please get in touch to discuss further.

Do I need to get permission from my hospital or midwife?

Yes, this is very important and it is your responsibility to make sure that your chosen hospital/birth centre will allow me to be present. I am more than happy to meet with them prior to your birth to discuss any concerns that they may have, please just pass on my details.

When will you arrive to document my birth?

I will be on call 24/7 from 38 weeks and ready to join you as soon as I am needed. Please ring me as soon as you think labour has begun, even if it's 4am! Once you are in established labour I will join you at your chosen birth place, whether this be at home, hospital or birth centre.

How long will you stay?

Births are unpredictable in duration but I will stay for as long as it takes to deliver your baby. I will then remain with you for up to two hours postpartum to document those first precious moments.

What if I have a c-section?

Even if your hospital has a policy against allowing photographers into theatre, I can still come to the hospital to document your story before and after the birth. I am more than happy to set up my camera for either your birth partner of a member of the medical team to use during the birth.

What if I give birth prematurely?

If you go into labour before you are 38 weeks, I will do my very best to get to you as soon as possible. If I'm unable to get to you in time to documemt your birth, I will try to be with you within 48 hours for a Fresh 48 Session.

What is a Fresh 48 Session?

A Fresh 48 session is for those who want the first few hours of their newborn’s life captured without having the entire labour or birth documented. These lifestyle sessions are held within the first 48 hours after your baby's birth and are perfect for capturing those first feeds, soft snuggles, meeting older siblings/grandparents. These sessions can take place at the hospital, birth centre or within your own home.

When do you arrive for a fresh 48 session?

Whithin the first 48 hours after birth. Some clients like to have a chance to shower and clean up a little bit. Just let me know once your baby has been born and we will agree a time for me to join you.

Do you have to share our images in your portfolio and across social media?

Most definitely not. It is lovely when I can share my lastest work as it keeps my portfolio current but I completely respect your right to privacy too.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, I have both Professional Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance.
